About Us
Hi, I’m Laura McKillop
Owner | Bookkeeper | Magazine Designer | Order Processor
I’m the face behind the Australian Working Stock Dog Magazine, and at 24 years old, I juggle a bit of everything to keep it running smoothly.
I’ve grown up surrounded by animals in the Hawkesbury, NSW, and I think my love for them is just part of who I am – probably passed down through the family genes. My late grandfather ran a beef cattle farm, so I’ve always felt connected to agriculture and rural life. Horses have been a huge part of my journey too. By the time I was 20, I’d competed in State, National, and Royal events with the Australian Stock Horse Society, and even now, I still travel across regional NSW with my sister Brydie, judging events.
My passion for working dogs started a bit later. Watching my mum train and compete in yard trialling sparked something in me, but it was at the 2019 Bathurst Royal Show that everything clicked. After watching the dogs in action, I walked away saying, “That’s it – I’m getting a dog.” Fast forward a few years, and now I’ve got a team of seven incredible dogs, a mix of Kelpies and Border Collies, all at different ages and stages of training.
I love competing in 3-sheep, yard, utility, and cattle trials. While I find it a bit harder to get to some of the cattle events, the connection I’ve built with my dogs through training and trialing is unmatched. But it’s not just about the dogs—it’s also about the people you meet and the stories you hear along the way. Whether those stories are true or not—well, who knows—LOL!
If I look familiar, it might be because of my family’s business, Grovers Country Clothing, where I’m lucky enough to be one of the faces of the brand. It’s a family-owned and operated Australian company that my parents, Maree and Scott, started right here in the Hawkesbury.
Running the magazine lets me bring together my passions—dogs, rural life, and the incredible community that surrounds it. It’s not just a job; it’s something I truly care about, and I hope that comes across in every issue.
